African Jazz
DJ
and music promoter Graham aims to take people back to their Southern
African homelands with the music that has special meaning for them.
Already
in active in cultural exchanges, GCO has taken South Auckland favourites
Ardijah to Cape Town to perform at the annual Jazzathon, 2004, and
is looking forward to more official cultural exchanges.
The
interest of Kiwis in Southern African music had been fuelled by
the African sounds provided by "DJ Hammer" at the "Taste
of Africa" and "Cape to Cairo" festivals.
With
a large community of Southern Africans living in Auckland and more
coming from all over Africa, Graham saw the international language
of music acting both as a bridge between cultures and a balm for
the homesickness of African New Zealanders.
Live
phone links had put EX-Pats in touch with their families in Southern
African.
Graham
featured interviews with the communities of arts and culture, broadcasting
in both English and Afrikaans.
